Sold , thank you Sheldon fine Art . Depicted in this painting is the pilot boat Hesper meeting with the immigrant ship Germanic outside Boston harbor. When my grandmother immigrated from Ireland in 1900 , she came over on the SS Germanic .

Elsie & Bluenose 30” x 40”
Depicted in this painting is the 1st race between the American fishing schooner Elsie and the Canadian fishing schooner Bluenose. The race took place October 22, 1921 , off Halifax Nova Scotia .
The International Fisherman’s Cup races was initiated in 1920 , in response to the dandification of the America’s Cup races . It was a race for working boats , sailed by working men .
There was big differences between the two schooners. The Bluenose was much larger than Elsie , with a longer waterline and a much larger sail area . The Bluenose was specifically designed to win races and the Elsie was built solely as a deep sea fisherman.
That being said the Elsie held her own with both schooners sailing neck to neck through two thirds of the forty mile course . At the last leg of the course Bluenose pulled ahead and won the race .

“Yacht America , Still Breeze , 1887”
A new 30 “x40” painting , just arrived at the Trippe Gallery in Easton , Maryland.
In this painting America looks quite different from her glory days of 1851 , when she beat a whole fleet of British yachts to win the Hundred Guinea cup later to be known as the America’s cup .
In the 1880’s her owner Benjamin Butler wanted America to be a contender again for the America’s Cup race’s so he had her rebuilt . He had her bow and stern extended giving her more length and speed . Her masts and bowsprit were lengthened so she could carry more sail . She was a beauty.

“Elsie & Bluenose, 1921 “ 30”x40”
Fresh off the easel ,this is the American Elsie heading for the Mark with the Canadian Bluenose already rounding it . There were eighteen organized races amongst fishing schooners between 1886 and 1938 . These matches were between plain working vessels sailed by plain working fisherman. No matter what the weather, even with a gale blowing, they would race . The fishing schooners were fast , sturdy and very sea worthy. Contrast that to the America’s cup fragile yachts where races would be called off if it was to windy .
Being a fisherman on one of these vessels was a dangerous job . In Gloucester alone , between 1866-1890 , more than 380 schooners were lost at sea and 2450 men never came home . These Gloucester, Boston and Canadian fisherman had balls of steel .
